Ex-Rangers boss Walter Smith has told his successor Ally McCoist he should move to bring striker Kris Boyd back to the club next month.
Boyd is available for transfer after leaving Turkish side Eskisehirspor this week after terminating his contract and Smith believes he can repeat the success of his first spell with the club if he was brought back to Ibrox.
The 28-year-old scored 101 goals for the Gers before leaving the club in 2010 to join Middlesbrough and is the SPL's all-time leading goalscorer, having also scored 63 times for Kilmarnock.
Boyd is understood to be keen on a return to the UK having failed to establish himself in Turkey and Smith said: "He scored an awful lot of goals for Rangers and was a good player for Rangers over the years.
"He left because he was offered a better deal in England at the time and then again in Turkey.
"From a Rangers point of view he would be an obvious one to have a look at."
