Pardew relaxed over Fab deal

by Setanta Staff , 05 February 2012 Pards cool on Fab deal

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew says he is relaxed about Fabricio Coloccini's contract situation even though they are no nearer to agreeing a deal.

Newcastle are keen to get the defender tied down to a new five-year deal and were hoping to make significant progress when the player's agent jetted in for talks last week.

However, there is still a lot to sort out before a deal can be agreed and that could open the door for rival clubs such as Liverpool to nip in with an offer in the summer.

Despite the situation Pardew is keeping his cool. "We've had further discussions and I think there are further discussions to be had on that," Pardew said. "I'm relaxed about it."

Meanwhile Pardew is also keen to tie Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson down to new deals, while Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye and Tim Krul will be offered fresh terms and a pay rise to fight off interest from other clubs.

"We have a squad doing very well and one or two players are coming to the end of their contracts and I think those we need to address," Pardew added.

"If there are players who have done exceptionally well and have to be realigned if you like, that might need to wait until the summer."
