Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has revealed the club could appoint a short-term manager in order to keep them in the Premier League.
The Molineux outfit sacked Mick McCarthy on Monday after a 5-1 home defeat to Black Country rivals West Brom on Sunday sent them tumbling back into the relegation zone on goal difference.
The club confirmed they hope to have their new man in place by the time they travel to Newcastle on February 25th.
Former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley and ex-Sunderland manager Steve Bruce were installed as early favourites to replace McCarthy but Moxey insisted they had not yet spoken to anyone about the role.
He also revealed that they may appoint a manager until the end of the season with the specific task of keeping them in the top flight before appointing a permanent boss in the summer.
When quizzed on the possibility of a short-term boss Moxey told the Express and Star: "That's definitely an option. It's part of our thinking. If someone wants to come in and say 'you know what I fancy this, I reckon I can keep you in the Premier League' - then we create a short-term situation and they can demonstrate they are worthy of a long-term one.
"We're not saying absolutely not to that."
