Dundee replace Rangers in SPL

by Jason Farrell , 16 July 2012

The Scottish Premier League have invited Dundee into the top flight for the coming season after Newco Rangers were placed into Division Three on Friday.

'The Dark Blues', who finished second in the First Division last season, were chosen ahead of relegated Dunfermline at the SPL’s AGM on Monday morning.

Since the decision to place Rangers into Division Three last week there had been talk that the SPL would re-shape the league in order to facilitate a swift return to the top flight by the Glasgow outfit.

However, this didn't come to pass and the SPL clubs have now said they are willing to work with the Scottish Football League and allow Rangers to take their place in the Third Division.

An SPL statement read: "It was agreed that the SPL would work with the Scottish FA, SFL and Rangers to facilitate Rangers FC taking their place in SFL Division 3 this season.

"It was agreed that Dundee FC would be invited to fill the space vacated by Rangers FC in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League."
