New injury blow for Red Devils

Manchester United have been hit by the news that Rio Ferdinand is set to be sidelined for a month with a groin injury.

The 33-year-old central defender has been struggling with back problems for some time, but it is being suggested this latest problem, which he suffered during a training session at United's Carrington training ground on Friday, is affecting his groin.

As a result Ferdinand, who was recently fined £45,000 by the FA after appearing to endorse a tweet which described Chelsea's Ashley Cole as a 'choc ice', will miss United's Premier League curtain-raiser at Everton on Monday evening.

To make matters worse for Red Devils chief Sir Alex Ferguson, it is another absentee from his defence which is already depleted by the loss of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, while skipper Nemanja Vidic has not been back too long from a six-month lay-off after his cruciate knee ligament injury.
