No Gold Cup run for Europe

by Michelle Fortune , 11 February 2013

Sizing Europe will not run in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup after being ruled out of the blue riband by trainer Henry de Bromhead.

The dual Festival winner had been entered in the Gold Cup as connections weighed up whether to give him another crack over three miles but de Bromhead had intimated that he would be withdrawn from the race after he landed the Tied Cottage Chase over two miles at Punchestown earlier this month.

While he has been scratched from the Gold Cup, the 11-year-old remains on course to run in either the Queen Mother Champion Chase or the Ryanair Chase with de Bromhead unsure which race to target.

"He's out of the Gold Cup and we've put him in the other two for the moment," said De Bromhead.

"We've no idea which race. It's definitely 50-50 now. We are always looking forward to Cheltenham when he's running. He's been super. He seems in good form, he seems well and we're happy with him at the moment."

Sizing Europe is unbeaten this season with two of his four wins coming over two and a half miles, the same distance as the Ryanair Chase.
