Agbonlahor wants Benteke to stay at Villa

Gabriel Agbonlahor expects Christian Benteke to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League following his impressive debut season for Aston Villa.

Benteke joined Villa from Genk in the summer and has already become a firm favourite with the fans thanks to his 15 goals, but his success could lead to his departure as both Arsenal and Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old.

Agbonlahor believes Benteke has been one of the players of the season but is worried that he could leave for pastures new in the summer.

"Christian is one of the players of the season for me so far," Agbonlahor said.

"He's going to get linked with the top clubs, especially because of his age. He's young. He's gifted in what he can do so he's going to be linked with a lot of clubs.

"I think he's good enough for even higher than them (Arsenal and Tottenham).

"He's showed that by the way he plays with his composure for a big guy and he has quite a bit of pace as well.

"There are many aspects of his game that are at the top level."

Benteke will have three years to run on his contract at the end of the season but Villa could be forced to sell him if they fail to secure their Premier League status.

Agbonlahor wants him to remain at Villa Park but knows the club will ultimately decide what to do with the Belgian striker.

"He's still learning his trade here and enjoying his football so hopefully he stays here," Agbonlahor continued. "We will have to wait until the end of the season to see what the club decides.

"It's not for anyone else to decide, it's going to be down to the club and what their plans are for him."
