Santi Cazorla is targeting a victory over Tottenham on Sunday to strengthen Arsenal's hopes of a top four finish in the Premier League.
Arsenal are currently fifth in the table, four points behind Tottenham, but defeat at White Hart Lane would see them fall further off the pace and leave their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in doubt.
Tottenham, who head into the tie on the back of a hard-fought win over West Ham, have lost their last two derby matches to the Gunners and Cazorla believes victory for Arsenal would be a big step in their quest for a top four place.
“It’s very important, not just because it is a great rivalry or that it’s Tottenham versus Arsenal, but the fact that they’re a side with great players who are fighting with us for a top-four spot,” he told Arsenal Player.
“To beat them and get into the top four and the Champions League, which is our aim for the season, is essential. We know how important it is and I hope we can rise to the challenge.
“Like everyone else, I’m really looking forward to the match against Tottenham and I hope we can achieve our goal of fighting for a Champions League spot. It’s going to be a really difficult game but a great match to watch.”
Gylfi Sigurdsson scored Tottenham's second goal in the 2-3 win over West Ham on Monday night, a victory that saw them climb above Chelsea, and he is targeting another victory.
"It is going to be a massive game for us," he said. "However, anything is possible in football. The league was won in the last minute on the last day, so even if we beat them it is not finished.
"First, though, we have to beat them to start thinking about that.
"It will be a great atmosphere. Hopefully we can get a win and stay above Chelsea.”
