Martinez back Capello

Roberto Martinez says Fabio Capello was undermined by the Football Association before he quit as England boss.

Capello walked away from his position on Wednesday following a meeting with the FA, who decided to strip John Terry of the captain's armband over the alleged race row with Anton Ferdinand.

The Italian wanted to keep Terry as skipper until after the case against him was heard and Martinez says the FA should not have gone over his head as the manager should make all the big decisions.

"In any football team, it doesn't matter if it's at club level or a national team, the manager is the main man and the one that needs to put everything together," said Martinez in a press conference.

"For that, every single decision that affects players, no one can do it apart from the manager and I think that's something that's always been the case.

"Only in successful teams you'll find that those should be the dynamics of any group.

"It is disappointing, the manner that it happened, but I'm sure that that could change the future of the way that things have been working."
