Miguel Cotto targeted the welterweight division's marquee names, after edging past Joshua Clottey on Saturday.
Manny Pacquiao was at ringside for the contest and if, as seems likely at this stage, that he cannot agree terms with Floyd Mayweather, Cotto could meet the Filipino icon instead.
Cotto won a split points decision over his Ghanaian opponent at Madison Square Garden despite fighting over nine rounds with a cut over his left eye.
The Puerto Rican admitted this cut directed his tactics in the bout but was proud that he managed to come out on top.
"I had to box with all the blood coming from my eye I couldn't see," Cotto said live on Setanta.
"Everytime the referee asked me if I could still fight and I said yes.
"He hit me with a lot of good punches but I'm still here, I'm still the champ."
Cotto answered questions raised by his defeat to Antonio Margarito with his performance in the last four rounds and said afterwards that he would welcome the chance to fight him again to put the record straight.
"It didn't Margarito fight is in the past," Cotto added. "If he wants to fight again after his year suspension that's fine.
"I'm here to fight the best in my division and I'm not going to change my mind."
