Osborne pleased with progress

by Gareth Maher , 14 June 2009

It has been a memorable year so far for Colin Osborne and he wants to keep his good form going.

The Derby native has set his sights on moving up the World Rankings, but he knows that that will probably be the toughest challenge of his career due to the amount of quality players currently on the professional circuit.

He has started to make a name for himself though, which is the first big step. The next would be to claim a big scalp and he certainly did that by beating Raymond van Barneveld.

The victory over van Barneveld came as part of an impressive run to the final of the UK Open, where he eventually lost to Phil Taylor.

"Over the last six months in the floor tournament's I've been very consistent so I was in good spirits coming into the competition," said Osborne.

"It was for me to kick on and prove to myself that I can do it in front of the cameras, and I've done that.

"When I beat Raymond [van Barnveld] it was a great feeling, to get up on stage and prove to myself that I can do it with the best players in the world.

"I had some tough games, such as against Kevin Painter in the semis and Wayne Jones in the last 32.

"I'm just pleased that I proved to myself I can get up there and mix it."
