Afridi show sees Pakistan into final

by Robin Hackett , 18 June 2009

Pakistan booked their place in the final of the World Twenty20 with a seven-run victory over South Africa.

Pakistan failed to build any real momentum with the bat, but Shahid Afridi grabbed 51 runs and Shoaib Malik 34 as they made 149-4.

The tournament favourites would have felt confident of chasing that total down, but while Jacques Kallis claimed 64 and JP Duminy 44, they fell short of their target with 142-5.

Afridi was the star with the ball, taking both Herschelle Gibbs and AB De Villiers for a total of 16 runs.
