Sri Lanka book final berth

by Tom Kell , 19 June 2009

Sri Lanka will play Pakistan in the World Twenty20 final after a 58-run win against West Indies in Friday’s semi-final.

Chris Gayle won the toss and opted to field first, subsequently restricting Sri Lanka to 158-5 from their 20 overs.

However, England’s conquerors could offer little in return and were dismissed for just 101 with 14 balls to spare.

Tillakaratne Dilshan was the man that Sir Lanka had to thank for their victory after he starred with an unbeaten 96.

If his part in Sri Lanka’s total with the bat was pivotal, three wickets for Angelo Matthews in the Windies’ first over all but guaranteed which way the game would go.

Gayle was predictably brazen with a splendid 63 not out from 50 balls but none of his colleagues even made it to double figures.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan will play out the final at Lord’s on Sunday afternoon.
