Lungo quits training

by Johnny Ward , 21 June 2009

Len Lungo has announced that he is quitting training.

The 59-year-old, who trained 63 winners per season at his height, saddled just 22 victorious horses in the last couple of National Hunt campaigns.

The Scot blamed the economic depression in the main for his decision to retire.

"I'm in my 60th year, which is a good enough reason, but it's also difficult to get any business done in the current climate.

"I've tried and failed to sell four horses with winning form recently, and if you can't sell those types," he asked the Racing Post, "what chance have you?"
