Ronnie Irani

Ronnie Irani is a former professional who is well placed to give an honest assessment of the IPL in his role as a Setanta pundit.

The ex-Essex star, who played in three Tests for England, was forced to retire by a knee injury in 2007.

A keen all-rounder, he was particularly effective in the One-Day game and is a regular on media scene due to his frank talking and personable nature.

Ronnie will be part of the Setanta team covering the IPL exclusively live.

My stars of the IPL

It’s just past halfway in The IPL and I think it’s high time I picked my team of the tournament so far.

There are some big names in there, as you would expect with the glittering array of players in The IPL, but I’ve looked to find one or two who do not command the headlines.

It’s a work in progress and there could be changes before the tournament draws to a close, but I’m very happy with what I have so far.

Mathew Hayden (Chennai)
Sachin Tendulkar (Mumbai)
Suresh Raina (Chennai)
JP Duminy (Mumbai)
Rohit Sharma (Deccan)
Yusuf Pathan (Rajasthan)
Naman Ojha (Rajasthan)
Irfan Patrhan (Kings XI)
RP Singh (Deccan)
Muttiah Muralitharan (Chennai)
Lasith Malinga (Mumbai)

Suresh Raina is a local player who has really impressed me, he’s a fantastic batsman, I really like him. He can play both sides of the wicket, is not scared of the short stuff and has a wonderful eye. He is not the powerhouse of a Matthew Hayden, but not many are.
