The Bradford manager and chairman, as well as Omar Khan, who is the club's first Asian Ambassador, helped in my decision to join until the end of the season and they outlined the project the club has in place, both on and off the pitch.
I was convinced that it was an ambitious club pushing for promotion and the lure of regular first-team football was the major reason for joining. Stuart McCall and his staff have done a terrific job to date so hopefully I can help carry that on and improve the team.
Bradford has a massive Asian population and the club have been very pro-active in attracting the local community to come along to the games, to support their local team and intergrate into the mainstream of society through the power of football.
There are a lot of football clubs that do excellent work in their local areas and Bradford has always been a community-based club so to get the opportunity to be a part of that and to help make a difference in the local area is great.
Along with the community team at the club we have visited local schools that have predominantly ethnic children and we talked to them about playing football, leading active/healthy lifestyles and, of course, supporting Bradford City on matchdays. The response has been very encouraging and it's pleasing to see young kids listening and feeling like they belong to the football club.
The Asian kids growing up now are the fourth generation of British Asians in the UK and football is in their blood. They are more likely to overcome the odds and stereotypes as they have developed a western mentality and really love the game.
By me being available for them to speak to and watch playing for Bradford it will hopefully continue to inspire them to believe it's possible to pursue a career in the game.
