Hiddink's made people like Chelsea again

by Steve McManaman , 30 May 2009

In the FA Cup final, Chelsea were just too strong and too powerful in the end and they deserved the win.

Unfortunately for Everton and their supporters, it was a bad day. It was a great season for the team and a great season for the manager, but I think the FA Cup final was just that one game too far.

They looked tired and they had to bring on a couple of kids from the bench who just couldn’t make that impact.

They didn’t really make any chances after Chelsea took the lead and it was just what you would expect with the way they've played since Guus Hiddink arrived.

In a short space of time, he’s made the outsiders start liking them again.

Because they quickly came into money, everyone suddenly started hating Chelsea but, in the space of three months, everybody seems to like them again.

It’s just down to one man I think – the manager.

He’s got them back together and playing like a team. He just seems to unite everybody.

When Luiz Felipe Scolari was there, everybody – including the public – knew that people were not happy. People didn’t get on with each other and people disliked the manager.

With Hiddink, on the other hand, everybody seems to be getting on – they’re all saying nice things about each other and singing from the same hymn sheet.

Knowing every individual and knowing how to keep everybody happy is an art in itself. You don’t have to shout at people.

He has a squad full of internationals, but even the players on the bench seem to be saying nice things!

I think he deserves a hell of a lot of credit for bringing everyone together and keeping everybody happy. There’s a unity that they haven’t had for a long time.

There seems to be no chance that he’ll stay on next season, but who knows what will happen after that?

It’s possible that he will return to Stamford Bridge after he completes his duties at the 2010 World Cup but, whenever he wants to return to club management, he’ll be able to walk into any job.
