Moyes begrudges Hiddink success

Guus Hiddink leaves England with the well wishes of many, but Everton counterpart David Moyes believes some of his Premier League rivals will be instead feeling a little resentful.

Hiddink was in charge of Chelsea for little more than three months and in that time managed to claim the most prestigious piece of silverware in English football, the FA Cup.

Sunday's 2-1 win against Everton was described as the perfect send-off for Hiddink, who will return to his post as the full-time manager of Russia, but Moyes claims it would have been better for English football had he got one over the Dutchman.

"I thought it was important for the Premier League for us to win today," said Moyes. "I don't think any of the managers would have liked Guus Hiddink to come in and take the trophy very quickly.

"You have to work really hard in this league to win anything, so I think the League Managers' Association would have been saying he's come in and won the trophy in what? Three and a half months?

"This is a strong country for football and we take it very seriously, so I wanted to try to beat Guus Hiddink.

"I congratulate him because he's a really good man and a good coach, but I wanted it to be much harder for somebody to come in and take a trophy."

Neville eyes top four

Phil Neville has told setanta.com that Everton are striving to break the monopoly of the big four.

The Everton captain bravely took responsibility for Frank Lampard's winning strike in the FA Cup final before turning his attentions to next season.

Neville believes Everton's fifth-place finish in The Premier league can hold them in good stead for next season.

"Last season it was ourselves and Aston Villa who were pushing for a top four spot before Arsenal eventually stepped on the gas and claimed it," Neville told setanta.com.

"I still think there is a gulf between us and the big four teams but we are going in the right direction.

"Outside the top four, we have shown the most consistency."

Neville believes the drive of David Moyes will stop the Everton squad from stalling after the cup final loss.

"We have raised the bar this season. We have still got a massive way to go but we are very lucky at this club that we have got a manager who will not accept second best," added Neville.

"He will not allow us to come back to pre-season all wallowing in self-pity after a great season we have had this year. He wants us to break into that top four, he is unbelievably ambitious."

Everton defender Lars Jacobsen exclusively told setanta.com that he would like to stay at Goodison park when his 12-month deal expires.

"There is not much time left on mine but I would be interested to stay at Everton, although it is up to the club," he said.

Buck says Guus is definitely off

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has told Setanta that there is no way that Guus Hiddink is staying in charge.

Hiddink has consistently maintained that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and now looks certain to keep to his word.

There had always seemed to be the slight chance that the impact the Dutchman has made might see him appointed as the long-term Blues manager.

However, with a victorious FA Cup final out of the way, Buck admits that he and his colleagues have long been in the market for a successor.

“We’re going to miss him. He’s a superb coach but he’s also one hell of a guy who’s been loved by the Chelsea fans from the minute he arrived,” Buck told Setanta Sports 1 after the 2-1 win over Everton.

“There’s only a few great coaches in this world and he’s one of them.

“But we’ve known since February – although you guys didn’t believe us – that he’s going to leave, so we’ve done our homework.

“He hasn’t gone yet but I think we know [Hiddink staying] is not on the cards.

“He’s on his way today and he’s got games with Russia next week so he’s off.”

Chelsea stars ecstatic after cup glory

Chelsea’s FA Cup heroes have told Setanta Sports of their delight after the victory over Everton.

Everton took the lead after just seconds at Wembley on Saturday, but goals from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard ensured Guus Hiddink will leave England with a trophy.

And Lampard, who emulated his father’s corner flag celebration after his FA Cup semi-final winner for West Ham against Everton in 1980, was thrilled with events.

“That was the highlight of his career and this is one of the highlights of my career – to score a goal that helped Chelsea win the cup final,” he told Setanta Sports.

“It’s fantastic – as good as it comes really.

“We’ve had some difficult years but we’ve won something today, which gives us confidence for next season.”

Lampard also paid tribute to Hiddink for his efforts in his short spell at Stamford Bridge.

“The man’s unbelievable,” he said.

“He’s a fantastic manager but I think what we’ve learned more than anything since he’s been here is that he’s a fantastic man and he deserves his bit of glory.”

Asked if he would try to convince Hiddink to stay on, he said: “We probably will do after a couple of beers tonight!

“Good luck to him whatever he does. He deserves it.”

Captain John Terry believes the trophy – their first since their 2007 FA Cup win – serves as a warning that Chelsea are back.

“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve won things, and you get so much more determined when you see other teams pick things up,” he said.

“This is a sign of us saying we’re back.

“We’re maybe going to sign a few people this summer and have a new manager coming in – who knows what’s going to happen?

“We need to get that fear factor back.”

Drogba also paid tribute to Hiddink and said he will leave a lasting impression at the club.

“We know he is not going to stay but what we have to remember is what he gave us,” he said.

“He gave 100 percent of his time to Chelsea and that’s why we’re really happy for him.”

Ashley Cole added: “I don’t think he’ll be forgotten very quickly.

“All the lads of loved him, the staff loved him and he got on well with everyone.”

Florent Malouda, who joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2007, was delighted to finally win some silverware with the club.

“It’s my first title with Chelsea and I’m really enjoying it,” he said.

“I have played so many finals and I have lost them all!

“It was a magical atmosphere and I’m so, so happy. I hope next year we do the same and win maybe the league.”

Tim Cahill has told Setanta Sports that he is proud to play for Everton and hailed the team spirit that took them through to the FA Cup final.

Despite taking an early lead, Everton were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea in the final at Wembley on Saturday.

But Cahill feels they deserve plenty of credit for their achievements given their limited resources and he is desperate to see the squad stay together for next season.

"The best thing about this team is we stick together, no matter what,” he told Setanta Sports.

"We've come so far with such a small squad and I'm just proud to be part of this team and wear this shirt.

"I'm just gutted because this was a chance to win some silverware.

"We lose as team and win as a team.

"We're going to hold our heads up high and take this on the chin.

"We've had such a long season with such a small squad.

"I can't be happier playing with a group of lads like this. I just hope everything stays the same for next season."

Moyes eyes bright future after final defeat

David Moyes has told Setanta Sports that he was extremely proud of his players after their FA Cup final defeat but says they must continue to challenge for silverware.

Everton took the lead against Chelsea just seconds into the game on Saturday through Louis Saha, but a first-half Didier Drogba equaliser followed by a 71st-minute Frank Lampard winner cost them the game.

And, despite failing to build on their early advantage, Moyes says he was delighted with the way his team battled.

“I’m extremely proud of the season that they’ve had and they were rightly in the cup final,” he told Setanta Sports.

“Today we came up against a better team than we were but we kept at it. We were never out of it.

“Probably at the moment when we thought we were on top, they scored their second goal.”

He added: “I thought we were resilient. We stuck at it but, just as we were getting a foothold in the game, Frank Lampard scores.

“It was an incredible start but we never built on it.

“If anything, it might have settled Chelsea down more – they started to play but we were maybe a little bit anxious after that.”

While Moyes admits that Chelsea were the better team, he remains determined the bridge the gap with the top four.

“We have to try,” he said.

“When we went out there today, there was no gap – it was 11 against 11.

“In the end, you have to accept that they were better than us today.”

The final was Moyes’ first since his arrival at Goodison Park in 2002, but he feels they can expect others in the near future.

“We’ve got to hope this is just a start and there’s going to be more,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to it.

“With the progress the players have made and the way the club is moving forward, I can see us getting more finals.

“I’m really proud of the players and how they’ve performed this season. I think they’ve put in a great effort and they should be pleased – but we want to win things.”

Guus revels in FA Cup recognition

Guus Hiddink told Setanta Sports that winning the FA Cup ranks as one of his finest career achievements.

Hiddink has been at Stamford Bridge for just a matter of months but will leave a lasting impression that has only been enhanced by Saturday’s 2-1 win over Everton at Wembley.

The Dutchman will now return to his role as Russia national team manager despite all his players making plain their desire to see him stay put.

“It’s perfect because if not we would have regretted being empty-handed,” he told Setanta Sports 1.

“ [This ranks] very high because the FA Cup is recognised worldwide as one of THE cups. When I was a young manager or even a little boy, no-one could touch that one Saturday in May.

“For me, it is also recognition for the work we have done, for me and for my assistants as well.

“Here, where football is invented, winning this cup is something you dream of.”

Attention immediately turns to Hiddink’s future but he remains adamant that his stay in West London will remain as a short-lived one.

"I can change what I want," he added. "Of course it’s very emotional but I think it’s good that it’s emotional. If not it would have been just an interim job from February until now.

"But I got so much back from the squad and the staff that it was not just a job inbetween.

"We knew beforehand what would happen in the end and I think it’s better just to say goodbye with a cup rather than without the cup."

Chelsea cup win sends Guus off in style

Guus Hiddink signed off as Chelsea boss in perfect style, as his charges came from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup final.

With Wembley bathed in sunshine, the Everton fans were out of their seats just 25 seconds in as Louis Saha fired them ahead.

Chelsea regrouped from the setback and Didier Drogba headed them level on 21 minutes.

Hiddink’s charges took a grip on the game after Drogba’s leveller but it took them until 19 minutes from time for Frank Lampard to grab the winner.

The margin of victory could have been greater as the excellent Florent Malouda had a legitimate goal not given, but it mattered little in the end as Chelsea secured their first piece of silverware since their FA Cup success in 2007.

David Moyes had agonised about whether to start with Saha and it took a night of restless sleep to come down in favour of the Frenchman over Jack Rodwell. The decision was vindicated in spectacular style just 25 seconds in as Saha netted the fastest goal in FA Cup final history.

Chelsea had two bites at the cherry to clear but had no answer to Marouane Fellaini who nodded the ball into the path of Saha and he rifled a crisp shot beyond Petr Cech from 16 yards.

Chelsea took some time to settle and a wild free kick and snap-shot that went well over from Michael Essien were their sum efforts in the opening quarter-hour.

Drogba looked extremely frustrated by Chelsea’s slovenly play in the opening 20 minutes, but the Ivorian burst onto the scene in trademark style to level the scores.

Nicolas Anelka and Lampard combined to free Malouda in space on the left flank. The Frenchman produced the kind of cross that Drogba feasts on and he did not disappoint, as he darted in front of Joleon Lescott and planted a header beyond Tim Howard.

Chelsea’s previously anonymous midfield suddenly sprang into life, with Lampard, John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien first to the loose balls. This led Marouane Fellaini, who was the victim of a crude challenge from Essien that somehow escaped censure, and Saha to drop deep in search of the ball, but this caused them more problems as it denied them an outlet ball.

Chances were at a premium in the first half and as such Ashley Cole should have done better after a clearance cannoned off Fellaini and looped into his path. The Blues full back left Tony Hibbert, who looked extremely nervous after picking up an early caution, trailing but he lashed his effort well over the bar.

Moyes removed the disappointing Hibbert from the line of fire at the start of the second half and threw on the lesser spotted Lars Jacobsen for only his sixth appearance of the season.

The Dane showed his defensive qualities early in the second half as he was on hand to deny Cole a shooting chance, after Chelsea had broken at pace following some sloppy play from Steven Pienaar.

On the hour mark Chelsea produced a moment of real quality as Lampard dinked a pass beyond the Everton defence that invited Anelka to gallop onto. The forward showed a clean pair of heels to his marker and delivered a deft lob over Howard that went a foot over the bar.

Petr Cech was a virtual spectator for over an hour following Saha’s early strike but he showed concentration is one of his strong suits when clasping a long-range snap-shot from Tim Cahill.

Saha may not be at full tilt but the striking instincts remain strong and he gave a reminder of his qualities on 67 minutes when getting across his marker flashing a header narrowly over the bar.

The greater threat continued to come from Chelsea and shortly after Drogba had turned a cross from the dangerous Malouda a yard wide, Lampard edged Chelsea ahead.

The danger was not obvious when Lampard collected the ball 30 yards from goal, but a trick took him away from Phil Neville and a powerful drive proved too hot for Howard to handle.

With Everton on the ropes, Malouda had a chance to put the game to bed but he did not do justice to Lampard’s clever pass as he fired his shot over the top.

Malouda thought he had got his name on the scoresheet with 12 minutes remaining and he almost certainly should have. The winger lashed a stunning drive towards goal, it thudded against the bar and landed over the line before bouncing back out. No goal but fortunately no huge controversy.

With the temperature gauge touching 40 degrees, Everton were unable to produce the grandstand finish and Anelka should have added a third in injury-time but dinked his shot over the bar.

Wilkins: Guus sad to go

Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has given Setanta Sports a rare insight into the mood in the camp on the day of the FA Cup final.

The FA Cup final will be live and free to air on Setanta Sports from 9am on Saturday May 30. Click here for details on how to sign up to Setanta Sports on Satellite, Freeview or Setanta-i.

Wilkins broke off from his preparations for the clash with Everton to inform Setanta Sports that everything is positive in the camp.

Guus Hiddink’s assistant claims the expectation levels are increasing and says the players are ready for action.

“They are feeling good and feeling excited, we all are as it is a showcase game and we are looking forward to taking on Everton,” Wilkins told Setanta Sports.

“They are relaxed, but every game a top-four side plays is a massive occasion and I get the impression this is no different. But it is the FA Cup final and it has massive importance to the English calendar and the lads are aware of that.

“There is an air of excitement as they can’t wait to get started.”

Chelsea could be forgiven for having a feeling of what might have been after seeing Barcelona win the Champions League final in midweek, but Wilkins claims there will be no hangover.

He added: “The guys are not hurt as far as what happened in the semi-final, these things happen and you have to get over it and get on with it and that’s what we intend to do.”

Hiddink will head back to Russia to focus on the national side following the Wembley showpiece and Wilkins claims the Dutchman will be sad to go.

“Guus is in great form,” added Wilkins. “He almost looks slightly sad he is leaving the guys, there is fantastic mutual respect for each other and that has come out over the last four months.”

Cole on brink of FA Cup history

Ashley Cole will hope to make FA Cup history in Saturday's final against Everton.

Should Chelsea lift the trophy, the England international defender will become only the fourth player to have won the prestigious club competition on five occasions, and the first since 1891.

Cole will hope to re-write the history books by becoming the first player in the modern era to have lifted the trophy on five separate occasions.

The four previous players to have done so in the past were Charles Wollaston in 1878 (The Wanderers), Arthur Kinnaird in 1882 (The Wanderers and Old Etonians) and Jimmy Forrest in 1891 (Blackburn Rovers) – all before the turn of the 20th Century.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has told Setanta Sports that win or lose at Wembley he will return to London.

The FA Cup final will be live and free to air on Setanta Sports from 9am on Saturday May 30. Click here for details on how to sign up to Setanta Sports on Satellite, Freeview or Setanta-i.

As Chelsea put the final touches to their preparations ahead of Saturday’s final with Everton, their Dutch tactician told Setanta’s chief football reporter Dan Roan that, provided his hunger for management remains undiminished, he would like to return to England in the future.

A huge success since joining The Blues as temporary first-team coach in February, Hiddink will return to his full-time post as Russia national team manager with a heavy heart.

“I will return, maybe first as a tourist!” Hiddink said.

“I’m not the youngest any more, but, as long as I’m energetic and I feel that I’m not repeating myself with the players then you never know. It’s possible.”

Hiddink does not expect the emotional occasion of an FA Cup final to lead to a repeat of the scenes which occurred after The Blues' Champions League semi-final draw against Barcelona. The post-match shenanigans of Drogba, Ballack et al have prompted a Uefa investigation.

“No, that was an exceptional situation with the players," said Hiddink, when asked if he feared a repeat on Saturday.

"They apologised for that, but it was caused by some injustice of the referee.

“I’m not saying the over-reaction is okay. We condemn that and apologise for that as well.

“I don’t think the players will be reluctant to go into a very emotional final because the team is very honest and if they have shown too much emotion the apologies are there.

“I think it will not happen again and what I know not just from England but from abroad is that Chelsea is well respected even more than before.”

The Toffees travel to Wembley as clear underdogs to Guus Hiddink’s metropolitan assembly of millionaires on Saturday, but Moyes travels to London in bullish mood.

Everton have kept their preparations extremely low-key prior to kick-off, not even telling the media which hotel they will be staying in.

Moyes believes his team’s unity is the key to victory, a unity that he believes is unrivalled by Liverpool, Manchester United or anyone else.

"We have a great group in the dressing room, and the characters we have as well,” said the Everton manager.

“It is not all pally-pally all the time, I need them to dig each other out when things are not going well and to slap each other around a bit, metaphorically.

"We have honesty and a team ethic that cannot be matched anywhere else in the country. That comes from winning and the success we have had.

"We may not have won anything yet, but the players can see the progress and they are all part of it."

Can Guus Hiddink sign off with a trophy or will David Moyes lead Everton to their first piece of silverware since they defeated Manchester United in the 1995 final?
17.08: RANGERS WIN THE SCOTTISH CUP! Nacho Novo's goal is enough as Falkirk are defeated 1-0.

16.59: Frank Lampard has told our chief football reporter Dan Roan that victory at Wembley makes up for the bitter disappointment of losing to Barcelona in the Champions League in such galling fashion.

16.56: Our man on the scene Richard Field has just seen Guus Hiddink give Ray Wilkins a huge hug following Chelsea's victory. It was well deserved and The Blues should have won by more given that Florent Malouda was denied a good goal when his shot crossed the line.

16.54: FULL TIME That's it! Chelsea win the FA Cup for the fifth time as goals from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard overturn Saha's goal after only 25 seconds. Guus Hiddink's departing present for Chelsea is their first piece of silverware in two seasons.

16.53: BOOKING Leighton Baines brings down Jose Bosingwa just outside the box and that looks to be that for Everton.

16.52: CHANCE FOR CHELSEA! Lampard tees up Anelka once more with a beautiful pass but again the Frenchman lifts the ball over Howard and the bar.

16.49: Tim Cahill drives one wide from 30 yards as the clock ticks into added time. Chelsea are four minutes of injury time away from winning the FA Cup.

16.47: Craig Burley picks out Ashley Cole as his man of the match and it has been a rare positive afternoon at Wembley for the defender, who has of course been targeted by England fans in recent games,

16.46: Just four minutes to go for Everton and Bill Kenwright is looking very concerned...

16.44: BOOKING Frank Lampard is cautioned for diving in the Everton box and he was certainly looking for it despite there being some contact with Steven Pienaar.

16.42: Petr Cech comes and flaps hopelessly at a cross. Is it just me or is he very unconvincing at the moment? Meanwhile, Everton bring on Dan Gosling for Leon Osman.

16.39: Oh dear, oh dear. Replays show the ball clearly, clearly crossed the line and Malouda has been denied a perfectly good goal there. That will be a hugely contentious moment should Everton get back into this.

16.38: CONTROVERSY! Malouda rattles the bar from 30 yards with a superb effort and, on first glance, the ball appeared to bounce over the line and out. Replays will hopefully clear this up..

16.36: David Moyes' response to going a goal down is to introduce James Vaughan for Saha, who struggled to make an impact following his early goal.

16.34: CHANCE FOR CHELSEA! Ashley Cole does superbly to control a high ball from Drogba and squares for Lampard who plays in Malouda with a cute reverse pass. The Frenchman appears to be offside but there is no flag before he drags his shot just over the bar.

16.32: GOAL FOR CHELSEA! Super Frankie Lampard puts Chelsea in front with a belter of a goal. 20 yards from goal, the midfielder lets fly with a left-footed effort that sears past Tim Howard. But how much space and time did he have to line up a shot there?

16.30: Jayjay wants to pay tribute to Walter Smith. But Jayjay, do you want Barry Ferguson to stay at the club now he appears to be back in what could loosely be described as favour?

Big shout out to walter smith i dont think he gets the credit he deserves for the job hes done the last two years, heres to continued rebuilding and success, cheers! Jayjay

16.29: Malouda speeds around Osman on the left wing and drives in a fierce cross that Drogba knocks wide. The pace is picking up somewhat but chances are still few and far between, unfortunately.

16.26: CHANCE FOR EVERTON! Leighton Baines delivers a typically dangerous cross to find the head of Saha, but with Cahill leaping just in front of him the Frenchman is distracted and heads off target when he really should have scored.

16.24: BOOKING Mikel is shown a yellow card for a tackle from behind, and maybe Hiddink took the wrong midfielder off in retrospect.

16.23: Cahill appears to block Alex's attempted clearance with his arms but Howard Webb does nothing and the Australian fires in a shot that Cech saves. He appears to hurt himself in the act of shooting but plays on.

16.22: SUBSTITUTION A surprising one from Hiddink as he brings on Ballack to replace Essien. The Ghanaian hasn't had his best game by any stretch of the imagination, but still...

16.19: CHANCE FOR CHELSEA! Frank Lampard plays Anelka in with a wonderful chipped pass and as the striker lifts the ball over Howard he also clears the bar.

16.18: Well Louis Saha's goal was sublime but his latest effort is just embarrassing as he skews a volley horribly wide.

16.17: Michael Ballack is warming up for Chelsea, perhaps Hiddink will look to shake things up in midfield as the game has grown a tad stagnant, in all honesty.

16.13: Thanks, Gideon, for your rather sinister comment...

chelsea are sole losers they are going ti face the knife while playing consitent everton. Gideon

16.11: Now I know Steven Pienaar is a clever little player but he just attempted a pass that seemed to bemuse just about everyone on the pitch as he knocked it into some empty space. Clearly no-one is on his level.

16.09: Malouda sends a volley high over the bar but it was a half-chance at best after Joleon Lescott headed a cross clear.

16.08: GOAL FOR RANGERS! Nacho Novo comes on as a sub at half-time and makes an immediate impact as he scores a wonderful volley from Sasa Papac's throw. 1-0 Rangers.

16.07: BOOKING Phil Neville is cautioned for a messy challenge on Mikel, but it was nowhere near as bad as Essien's tackle on Fellaini in the first half.

16.03: SUBSTITUTION Lars Jacobsen will be replacing Tony Hibbert at right back after a horrid first half for the latter. He was booked after only seven minutes, tormented by Florent Malouda and was then left for dead by Ashley Cole before the Chelsea man fluffed his lines. Ruthless but necessary from Moyes.

15.56: In the Setanta studio, Macca has offered his thoughts on Saha's record-breaking goal...

"We have seen a little bit of history. It was a great start by Everton and if anything, it is a silly thing to say, they have scored too soon. After the goal they started to sit back and play deeper and let Chelsea back in the game. That is not Everton’s style."

15.52: Half-time in the Scottish Cup final and Walter Smith's Rangers are being held 0-0 by Falkirk as they go in search of a domestic double.

15.48: It seems to me as though Florent Malouda and Steven Pienaar have been their respective side's best players so far. What do you reckon?

Get in touch using the comments form at the bottom of the page...

15.47: HALF TIME The teams go in at 1-1 after Didier Drogba equalised following Louis Saha's goal after just 25 seconds. A tense second half awaits at Wembley. Don't go anywhere.

15.45: Under no pressure whatsoever, Cech spills a Leighton Baines free-kick and gives away a corner. Everton take it shot but Baines can't find a team-mate with his cross.

15.44: GREAT CHANCE FOR CHELSEA! Ashley Cole dances past the sluggish Tony Hibbert but when presented with a chance to score the defender cannot hit the target. Incidentally, Cole will become the first man since the 19th century to win the FA Cup on five occasions should Chelsea triumph today.

15.42: This half has absolutely flown by and as the break approaches, Drogba draws jeers from the Everton fans when being accused of feigning injury.

15.40: Looks like noone got the quiz question right. The scorer of the 3.55 second goal was one Colin Cowperthwaite for Barronwagainst Kettering in the retro-named Gola League in 1979.

15.38: As temperatures reach a sizzling 41 degrees, it looks very much as though Everton have wilted following their blazing start with Chelsea assuming control of midfield.

15.33: Saha dinks a lovely ball over the top for Tim Cahill and he almost latches onto it before Cech snatches the ball away. That is what Everton needed, it looked worringly as though Chelsea were ready to camp in their half.

15.31: Florent Malouda sees a low effort blocked inside the box and Nicolas Anelka sends the rebound dribbling into the hands of Tim Howard.

15.28: You almost feel that Everton have paid the price for making such a brilliant start as it clearly riled Chelsea, provoking Drogba's quick response. It is now key that The Toffees don't concede again before half-time.

15.26: Michael Essien absolutely clatters into Fellaini with a nasty high challenge and somehow escapes without a booking. He got very little of the ball there.

15.23: Frank Lampard takes aim from 25 yards and his effort dips just over the bar. Now it is Everton who are firmly on the back foot.

15.21: GOAL FOR CHELSEA! Didier Drogba levels things as he beats Joleon Lescott to a Florent Malouda cross and heads past Tim Howard.

15.19: Let's have a little quiz in honour of Saha's goal. Who scored what is widely acknowledged to be the quickest goal in English football history at a ridiculous 3.55 seconds?

15.16: South African midfielder Pienaar really has started well and he draws a foul from Jose Bosingwa on the near touchline. Is anyone finishing the season as strongly as him? Andres Iniesta maybe...

15.15: Steven Pienaar displays his creative class when lofting a ball into the box for Fellaini, who sneaks in behind Alex and almost makes contact. What a lovely pass.

15.14: Drogba proves a nuisance in the Everton penalty area and lays the ball back to Essien who fires his volley off target.

15.11: Florent Malouda slips in Ashley Cole in the box but the left back is found to be offside as he tries to get a shot away.

15.10: Some poor communication between Lescott and Howard forces the defender to clear for a throw but again Chelsea cannot take advantage and Guus Hiddink's side have started in disappointing fashion.

15.07: BOOKING The first yellow of the afternoon is shown to Tony Hibbert as he trips Florent Malouda. The right decision from Howard Webb but Frank Lampard sends the free-kick well over.

15.04: A nervy backpass from Alex almost lets Saha have another crack but Cech is smartly off his line to clear. Now Chelsea have a corner but it comes to nothing. Wow, what an amazing start to this cup tie.

15.01: GOAL FOR EVERTON! You have got to be kidding! Louis Saha scores the fastest FA Cup final goal in history as he nets after only 25 seconds, beating Roberto Di Matteo's record of 42! Chelsea couldn't deal with Marouane Fellaini and he headed back to the Frenchman who finished with aplomb.

15.00: KICK OFF

14.59: Chelsea's fans produce a banner reading 'Thank You Guus' and the Dutchman's final game is fast approaching.

14.56: Some girl from last year's Britain's Got Talent sings the national anthem, presumably Susan Boyle was otherwise engaged. Minutes away from kick-off now.

14.52: A stirring rendition of the traditonal anthem of 'Abide With Me' and the teams stream onto the pitch. Former general secretary of The UN Kofi Annan is the guest of honour as he meets the teams.

14.46: It is pushing 38 degrees at Wembley but David Moyes seems confident his side will cope!

"Coming from a ginge who takes the sun very well I’m not too sure! We want to put on a show and come back with the cup. It is special, but it will be more special if I can walk up those steps at the end. That’s what I really want. We hope there are going to be more finals to come."

14.34: Our chief footballer reporter Dan Roan has grabbed a quick word with Guus Hiddink in the tunnel and with kick-off approaching, the Dutchman is hoping to end his brief Chelsea career on a real high.

"When I was a young manager or a player there was one sunny afternoon in May when we watched the FA Cup, wherever I was playing or staying. It has worldwide attention so it is very high ranked. It is a beautiful way to go."

14.30: Our man Richard Field awards the prize for best banners to Everton. 'Jesus saves... but Cahill nets the rebound' is the pick of the bunch. John Terry leads Chelsea in their warm-up and we are just half an hour away from kick-off, how exciting!

14.28: Phil Jagielka has given Setanta an update on his injury and it all sounds positive for the defender who sadly misses out on today's game.

14.26: So what do we make of those teams then? Chelsea's decision to include Mikel over Ballack looks a sensible one as Everton boast a decent midfield and the Nigerian is more of a battler than his German team-mate.

14.04: TEAM NEWS The teamsheets are in and, as predicted, Louis Saha gets the nod ahead of Jack Rodwell while Michael Ballack makes way for John Obi Mikel.

Everton: Howard, Baines, Yobo, Lescott, Hibbert, Cahill, P Neville, Pienaar, Osman, Fellaini, Saha. Subs: Nash, Castillo, Vaughan, Jacobsen, Rodwell, Gosling, Baxter.

Chelsea: Cech, A Cole, Terry, Alex, Bosingwa, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba. Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Di Santo, Ballack, Kalou, Belletti, Mancienne.

14.01: By the way the Scottish Cup final also takes place today and Barry Ferguson is recalled for Rangers as they face Falkirk. I'd love to see his celebrations at the party should they win, that will be a real all-nighter.

13.57: Johnboy 87, you do make me chuckle. I'd have to say I'm not aware of Ben's bedclothes-hogging tendencies, although if you are desperate to know (and I would seriously question why) then I'll find out from his lady friend. Yes girls, the boy Blackmore is taken I'm afraid.

13.53: Johnboy 87, I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and retract my comments about Ben Blackmore. He is actually a superb housemate, even if he watches a bit too much One Tree Hill. What a terrible programme, it's all about The OC for me, far superior...

13.50: The teams should be with us shortly, who should be starting for Everton and Chelsea? Here is my best guess... Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, Osman, Pienaar, Neville, Fellaini, Cahill, Saha. Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Alex, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Essien, Lampard, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba.

13.48: Our man at Wembley, Richard Field, reports that David Moyes has walked out onto the pitch to a generous reception from the Everton fans already in situ.

13.43: Johnboy 87, I'm very hurt by your harsh comments. I have the dubious honour of living with Ben Blackmore and let me tell you, he's a nightmare. Of course I jest, he is a lovely chap. By the way, I am open to a transfer if anyone from Swedish Model Weekly is reading this...

Transfer news just in... Tom adams on his way out of Setanta Sports, simply not good enuff, We want Ben Blackmore, perfect for the FA CUP final.... Johnboy87

13.41: Michael Smith, are you really a Liverpool fan? If so then fair play to you, very magnanimous prediction...

EVERTON TO WIN 3-0 Michael Smith

13.31: Wembley man, I'm liking your prediction. As for Johnboymufc87, I can make up some transfer speculation if you like? A source close to the player has told me that Michael Owen is currently lining up a move to York City, while Chelsea have already wrapped up a deal for Kevin Muscat. If you want some real speculation, then check out our Tabloid Times feature.

13.25: Wee Bob, I certainly wouldn't put it past Drogba to get a couple today, as you predict. The Ivorian has ten goals in his last 18 games and has really rediscovered his best form under Hiddink.

i predict a 3-1 chelsea win drogba 2 and lampard with the other and saha da get a consellation for everton Wee Bob

13.22: Both sides have now arrived at Wembley and we are about 20 odd minutes from getting today's teams. Will Saha or Rodwell start? Will Mikel get the nod ahead of Michael Ballack?

13.16: Dave Watson, captain of the Everton side that won the 1995 FA Cup, has given us his prediction. This seems like an opportune time to get yours. So, what will the score be? I'm going 2-1 Everton.

"If Everton get chances in games then the likes of Tim Cahill and Fellaini will pop up from set pieces. It will be a cagey game but I've got a sneaky feeling that Everton will nick it 1-0."

13.08: We have grabbed former Everton hero Graeme Sharp for a quick word at Wembley...

"Obviously it is going to be difficult for Everton with Chelsea being the favourites. Having said that Everton have been the underdogs on a number of occasions this season and they have upset people. There is a possibility of an upset here as well. Just coming in on the train today and seeing the fans outside in their thousands, they are delighted with the job David Moyes is doing. Another fifth-place finish this season and it would be great to get their hands on the first piece of silverware for this team."

12.54: Wee Bob, it would be a nice send off for Guus I agree. Of course it looks like Carlo Ancelotti is coming in, what do you Chelsea supporters make of that?

i predict chelsea to run out comfortable 3-1 winners, the chelsea team as a whole will play very well and give guus a fitting well deserved send off as a thank you 4 all the hard work he has done Wee Bob

12.45: Our man in the field, Richard Field (see what I did there?), reports it is nice and hot at Wembley but there is a cooling breeze which should be a relief for the fair-skinned Moyes. Rich also brings us this little snippet from Didier Drogba in the programme:

"He [Fellaini] is certainly a very good striker and a big danger so we will have to keep an eye on him if he is playing, because he can not only score goals but he can also create good chances as well."

12.40: Chelsea are also on board their team coach but Didier Drogba takes the time to shake hands with a few supporters. What a pleasant young man. Uefa charges? What?

12.32: If you are the Twittering type, be sure to have a look at our brand spanking new Event Centre for today's game. Also, we have all bases covered in our definitive guide to the FA Cup final.

12.29: BREAKING NEWS! Everton are boarding the coach people! Steven Pienaar looks very relaxed and it could be a big day for the former Ajax man. He has been in impressive form in Mikel Arteta's absence and is undoutedly the key man for The Toffees. Well, him and the genius that is Marouane Fellaini.

12.27: Tony Hibbert is interviewed in today's matchday programme and is effusive in his praise for Louis Saha. It is widely expected that Davie Moyes will choose between the French striker and young midfielder Jack Rodwell for his starting XI. Who should get the nod?

"King Louis is 'the man'. We knew he was a quality player when he arrived and we've found out he's also a quality guy. He settled into the dressing room straight away, and he picked up the banter."

12.23: Our reader Toffee Man appears confident, is he right to be so? I fancy Everton to spring a shock but Chelsea under Guus Hiddink are a formidable force. For all the justified praise Barcelona have been recieving, let's not forget that they shouldn't really have been in the Champions League final in the first place...

I really think today might be our day,we are been wrote off left, right and center by quite a few people, its as though we have lost already but we are better as underdogs and have nothing to lose as we are expected to lose- i go 2-1 to everton TOFFEE MAN

11.56: We have also been speaking to Ray Wilkins outside the Chelsea team hotel and he says The Blues are in buoyant mood, even if Guus Hiddink is sad to be leaving. The full story is here.

11.39: A couple of news lines from the Chelsea side of things today: David Beckham has denied that he will follow Carlo Ancelotti to Stamford Bridge while John Terry's legal team have refuted claims from Claude Makelele that the captain was involved in Jose Mourinho's departure last season. Not want you want on the morning of the final, eh?

11.27: It's been a funny old season for Chelsea, hasn't it? Seemingly hopeless under Scolari, Hiddink has reinvented them and got the best out of Didier Drogba, with Blues fans really taking to the Dutchman. Will he go out on a high?

11.08: Stan Collymore has just been reflecting on THAT suit that Liverpool wore for the 1996 final and claims, unbelievably, that he still owns it. Surely that should have been incinerated immediately following the game?

11.05: Thanks for your input Oh Storzy Storzy, but I think my bosses might want us to get off the karaoke thread and focus on some football game that is occuring today. So who do we think will be winning the big match? And which team will sport the snazzier suit?

Get in contact using the comments form at the bottom of the page...

11.00: The two teams have been building up for this moment for weeks and weeks now, so what did Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou do to prepare for the big day? Well according to The Daily Star they attended a bar opening that later descended into a fight last night. One 'Chelsea season ticket holder' told the paper: "Why weren't they tucked up in bed?" Probably because they have a social life. And the paper sneaks in the revelation that neither player drunk any alcohol and that the finght broke out after they left, a storm in a teacup then.

10.49: Setanta's very own Craig Burley has heard whispers that John Obi Mikel will be starting ahead of Michael Ballack today. Another kick in the teeth for the German who was absent for the 2002 World Cup final due to suspension and has narrowly missed out on so many trophies in his career. Our pundit is also backing against his former side to predict an Everton win, by the way...

"I would like to see the underdog win it today. I just think David Moyes has worked so hard, his players have worked so hard. They have had no strikers, Arteta is out, Jagielka is out, and in all those times of difficulty they have come to the fore and stood up to the challenge. I'd like to see Everton win it because I'd like to see a story there."

10.40: David Moyes has been speaking to Setanta about his situation at Everton. Wouldn't winning the FA Cup final be a fitting reward for the newly-crowned manager of the year?

"If you don’t have big finances and are able to make a hit instantly then you have to go down a different route and that is what we have done. I’ve got to say I wouldn’t mind a few bob to sign on top and giving us a chance of really going for it, I think we are in a position where we can do that, but it’s hard because those top four clubs have year in, year out Champions League money. So for us to finish four and then not make the group stages, that would probably be my biggest regret."

10.26: BREAKING NEWS! Saint and Greavsie are back! Check out their FA Cup memories by clicking on the video console above!

10.21: Oh Storzy Storzy is in the house I see, something of a setanta.com live update legend. He is predicting a 1-1 draw with Everton to win on pens, I have a sneaking suspicion that The Toffees might nick it in extra time, but that might be blind optimism rather than rational consideration. As for R_C, I'm not happy at this Barbie Doll nonsense, but are you Ken or Barbie when you sing your heart out at karaoke? Hit the town, fool around, let's go party...

10.18: Diverting our attention away from Compton's finest rap artistes for a second. I should really let you know about our comprehensive FA Cup final guide, including all manner of features, news articles and blogs. There is a little alternative Wembley checklist written by myself and Mr Chris Stanton which is just hilarious, I promise. Well, it's mildly amusing at least...

10.07: I would not have suspected that this FA Cup final day LIVE! would have turned into a Nate Dogg appreciation society but, R_C, you are a man after my own heart. Nate is the ultimate backing singer, just superb. What's his finest hour though? Regulate? 21 Questions? The Next Episode?

Ha, nate dog is the bomb!! but led zeppelin is more my scene, good solo by jimmy page, is like eduardo coming back from injury and scoring a cracking volley R_C

10.02: We will have the views of John Terry and David Moyes coming up soon, as well as a little chat with Everton's heroes from 1995 when the Merseysiders last won the FA Cup. Chelsea have of course won the cup on four occasions, Everton three. Will they draw level today?

Get in contact using the comments form below by the way. It's a long old build up to the game and I'll need some company. The first topics up for debate are... Who will be the key player today? What will the score be? What is your classic karaoke tune?

09.57: R_C, I'll do my very best to keep you entertained throughout today, if the comments get a bit lacklustre I'll regale you with tales of my karaoke exploits last night. Suffice to say that Nate Dogg and Warren G's Regulate tore the house down...

Hopefully this keeps me entertained untill i finish work! R_C

09.52: Guus Hiddink has been typically cagey with our chief football reporter Dan Roan. You've got to love the guy, what an impact he has made, let's hope he returns to The Premier League at some point. The Dutchman reckons he is more likely to come back to London to take in Madame Tussauds though, and Hiddink has also dismissed suggestions that the galling Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona will inhibit his team on Saturday.

"There was a lot of over emotion and we apologise for that, and I don’t think it will go into the cup final as it is a different approach for everyone concerned. I will return. Maybe first as a tourist. I am not the youngest any more!"

09.45: If you want to watch our coverage prior to the game then click play on the video console above. Right now we have Steve Bower at Wembley reviewing the morning's papers with a couple of hacks, plus Dan Roan speaks to Guus Hiddink.

09.00: Good morning and welcome to our live coverage of the FA Cup final. Before the action gets underway at Wembley, we have no less than six hours of build up to contend with but don't worry, we will have plenty of stuff to keep you occupied. If we run out, then we might even have to resort to some completely irrelevant banter with your good selves.

As ever, get in contact with us using the comments form at the bottom of the page, because just as a car can't run without oil, we can't function properly without your slick asides. Okay that's an awful analogy but you know what I'm getting at I'm sure...

Contrary to appearances, we haven't thought of quite everything. For your inconvenience, a pen is not provided.

PRE-MATCH

1. The cameras capture the trademark shots of the Chelsea team bus pulling away from the hotel to head for Wembley, only for Guus Hiddink to discover, in classic Home Alone fashion, that he has left without Petr Cech who was delayed after a mix-up with Lawrence Dallaglio over scrum caps.

2. A pundit will wax lyrical about ‘the romance of the cup’ before confidently predicting a comfortable win for Chelsea.

3. After throwing Mike Riley off balance following his accusations that the ref was a United fan prior to the semi-final, David Moyes innocently slips into his pre-match interview that he spotted Howard Webb on Kensington High Street humming a Madness song.

4. The royal pleasantries go surprisingly smoothly as Prince Phillip manages to only offend three members of the Chelsea squad with ill-advised quips.

5. The traditional anthem of ‘Abide With Me’ quickly degenerates into farce when it becomes clear that instead of booking Paul Potts, The FA have instead roped in Stavros Flatley to get the Wembley crowd going.

DURING THE GAME

1. A collective bout of tutting will take place around the stadium when the Club Wembley members fail to emerge on time for the second half.

2. Flouting Guus Hiddink's matchday ban, Jose Mourinho sneaks deep into the bowels of Wembley hidden in a laundry basket and delivers an inspirational team-talk before sneaking out just before the Dutchman finishes his half-time whizz.

3. A stray pass from Ashley Cole to Frank Lampard attracts the derision of a typically unsympathetic Wembley crowd. Wife Cheryl leads the chant: "10 men..."

4. Play is stopped when Florent Malouda and Marouane Fellaini become embroiled in an impromptu ‘hair-off’, with the Chelsea winger edging it on points.

5. John Terry will get booted in the face, kicked in the ribs, beaten with a stick, contract swine flu and still make it back from hospital in time to drag his anaesthetised body up to the royal box to lift the cup.

POST-MATCH

1. Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara will be spotted crying because it’s not a proper Wembley final if he isn’t reduced to floods of tears at some point.

2. A giddy Bill Kenwright will have a tear in his eye as he professes how much he loves and respects Moyes whether Everton win or lose.

3. Reporters rush onto the field to catch the reaction of Everton's winning players at the final whistle. Tim Howard makes his way to the microphone but, with the journos wary of the censors, the American is ushered away by the stewards.

4. The traditional playing of Queen’s ‘We Are The Champions’ is abruptly interrupted when Phil Brown bursts out of nowhere, leaps onto the stage and attempts to lead Wembley in a cringeworthy singalong.

5. Didier Drogba throws himself to the floor, yelling 'It's a f*****g disgrace' after being lightly brushed by the shoe of Guus Hiddink as the departing Chelsea manager is given the bumps by his team.

Exclusive: Cahill says it is time to deliver

Tim Cahill has told Setanta Sports that it is time for Everton to finally deliver some silverware.

Everton have not won a major trophy since their FA Cup victory in 1995, but they have the chance to end their long wait when they face Chelsea in the final of the competition on Saturday.

The FA Cup final will be live and free to air on Setanta Sports from 9am on Saturday May 30. Click here for details on how to sign up to Setanta Sports on Satellite, Freeview or Setanta-i.

And Cahill, who played for Millwall when they were beaten by Manchester United in the 2004 FA Cup final, is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

“I think it’s about time we got some silverware,” he told Setanta Sports.

“We’ve played some massive games leading up to this FA Cup final and not one player’s been rested, not one player’s pulled out of a tackle and not one player’s even thought about the FA Cup final.

“I think that that is the key to being winners. That’s the key to trying to win something.

“This is the time. We’ve got a lot of big players in this team.

“We set high standards for ourselves to try to produce the highest level we can throughout the season with such a small squad and such small funds.

“If we want to start achieving things and making things happen then this is it.”

However, Guus Hiddink is also determined not to end up empty-handed before he leaves Chelsea, and Cahill recognises his ability to drive his team to success.

Cahill played under Hiddink for Australia in 2005 and 2006 but, while he is a huge fan of the Dutchman, he feels David Moyes boasts similar qualities.

“Guus comes in and he’s stamped his authority before he’s even opened his mouth,” he said.

“He's very honest, very blunt but also a very nice guy. Some may say he’s difficult to work under but he’s very direct.

“It’s similar to David Moyes – if you don’t produce as a player, you can expect to be subbed or not playing.

“You don’t want a manager who’s always praising you – you want a manager that tells you the truth – and I think honesty as a footballer is probably the best thing.”

FA Cup final preview

Everton have already dispatched of two of the big four – can they make it three for their first trophy since 1995?

The FA Cup final will be live and free to air on Setanta Sports from 9am on Saturday May 30. Click here for details on how to sign up to Setanta Sports on Satellite, Freeview or Setanta-i.

Liverpool and Manchester United have fallen by the wayside at The Toffees’ expense on this season’s long road to Wembley, Everton have once again finished fifth and David Moyes has been named Manager of the Year for the third time.

But does he need this one victory, this one triumphant day and this long-awaited piece of silverware to finally receive the recognition he and his side deserve?

Those not denied the moment by coverage which will - fingers crossed - be bettered by Jon Champion's commentweeter, will remember Dan Gosling popping up to dispatch of his neighbours from across Stanley Park in the fourth round to kickstart the charge to Wembley . Here’s our rundown of both sides’ path to the final.

Leon Osman was the man who hit the net against Macclesfield in the third round but - somehow, inexplicably - was criminally overlooked in Setanta's goal of the tournament.

However, it was a man whose age is more akin to Gosling's than Osman's that is being mooted as the game’s surprise starter. Eighteen-year-old Jack Rodwell is one seriously classy customer in midfield but can he really cut it against a central trio as intimidating as The Blues’?

With or without Rodwell, the middle of the park will surely be where this game is decided. The domineering Marouane Fellaini has ‘Chelsea player’ written all over him but he’s sure to have his work cut out against Michael Essien and company. Here we assess the game’s other key battles.

If The Toffees are able to emerge on top of such duels they might just claim that silverware that Moyes thinks they so richly deserve. The ever-impressive manager was one of the most vocal to pooh-pooh the notion of holding semi-finals at Wembley but will now no doubt be grateful that his side have experience of such a grueling triumph under the arch last month.

Guus Hiddink has equally slim knowledge of the stadium but, for a man whose CV is dripping in big occasions, neither he nor his team is likely to be overawed as they seek to come up with the perfect leaving present.

Tim Cahill is no stranger to Moyes’ Dutch counterpart having been under the charge of the man he calls a ‘genius’ whilst on international duty with Australia and, having been a part of Millwall’s unlikely surge to the 2004 final, will be even more crucial to Moyes’ pre-match preparations than usual.

Cahill will be pushed forward at every opportunity but it will most likely be Louis Saha who starts in a more conventional striking role up against John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho or the just-about-fit Alex.

Frank Lampard has also been passed fit after missing the last game of the Premier League season as he seeks his second FA Cup winner's medal.

PREDICTION: Chelsea 1 Everton 2 (AET)

PIVOTAL PLAYER: Steven Pienaar. There are plenty of others on the pitch who could outshine this man but his form of recent weeks suggest he might be enough of a threat to help Everton unsettle Chelsea and upset the odds.
