Liverpool eye Defour

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has targeted Standard Liege star Steven Defour as a replacement for Javier Mascherano.


Mascherano has told Liverpool he is keen on a move away from Anfield, with Inter Milan his likely destination.

The Italian giants are expected to launch a £20million move for the Argentine international, but Hodgson has confirmed he will not allow Mascherano to depart if the deal is not right for Liverpool.

However, it seems almost certain the midfielder will leave Liverpool before the close of the transfer window and Hodgson has identified Defour as the perfect replacement for Mascherano.

It is thought the Belgian club would accept an offer of £12million for the 22-year-old, who had previously attracted the interest of Manchester United and Real Madrid before a serious injury ruled him out almost the entirety of last season.
