Bolton defender Gary Cahill believes he is ready to take a place in the England starting line-up after impressing on his debut.
Cahill came on as a second-half substitute in England's 4-0 victory over Bulgaria, following an injury to fellow centre-half Michael Dawson.
The Bolton star put in an accomplished performance alongside Phil Jagielka, and Cahill now believes he is ready to start the match when the Three Lions travel to Switzerland for their next Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday.
"Listen, from being a little lad, you strive to play for your country and be where you are now," said Cahill. "Yes, why not? I am ready for it, definitely, if called upon. It is the manager's decision. There are good centre-backs in the squad but, if called upon, I'll be more than happy to go out and play, more than proud."
Cahill could well be in line to start against the Swiss as boss Fabio Capello has not called up a replacement for Dawson, who faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines.
West Ham's Matthew Upson and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott will compete with Cahill for a starting role.
