Reports suggest that Galway are considering boycotting Saturday's Bord Gais Energy All-Ireland U21HC final against Tipperary.
Tribesmen officials are believed to be furious that the game is to go ahead in Thurles, claiming that the home venue gives Tipp an unfair advantage. They objected to the choice of ground with Galway hurling board chairman Joe Byrne meeting GAA director-general Paraic Duffy to discuss the matter over the weekend.
He was confident that the game would be moved to Limerick or Laois, but that has not happened with the Central Competitions Control Committee opting to keep the game in Thurles, where several of the senior side who won the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny on Sunday will line out for Tipp’s U21s in search of another medal.
"To say that we were very disturbed and disappointed by it would be the understatement of the year," Byrne was quoted as saying by the Irish Independent.
"Nobody is in the business of not turning up for finals and we have to take cognisance of that. We're in a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario."
Meanwhile, GAA president Christy Cooney has dismissed suggestions that there was ever a chance the final would be moved, the Cork native saying: "I don't know where he (Byrne) got that from.
“Paraic Duffy and I don't make the decision. The CCCC make the decisions and we fully support the decision that they made. I'm very happy with Thurles as the venue."
