Preview: Liverpool v Northampton (Weds)

by Setanta staff , 21 September 2010

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson will likely ring a host of changes for Wednesday's Carling Cup clash against Northampton Town.

The Cobblers are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition and will relish the trip to Anfield, where Brad Jones is likely to make his debut in goal for the Reds.

Martin Kelly, Danny Wilson, Jay Speraing, Daniel Pacheco, Jonjo Shelvey and David Amoo could all also be thrown into the first team, while Ryan Babel and Sotirios Kyrgiakos will be eyeing rare starts under Hodgson.

However, Fabio Aurelio remains sidelined with an Achilles injury and Dirk Kuyt is still several weeks from recovering from his shoulder injury. Jose Reina, Glen Johnson, Jamie Carragher, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Raul Meireles and Fernando Torres are all expected to be rested.

Northampton midfielder Ryan Gilligan is hoping he will overcome an ankle injury for the big trip to Anfield, but former Coventry City full back Marcus Hall is out with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool (from): Jones, Kelly, Agger, Kyrgiakos, Wilson, Lucas, Spearing, Pacheco, Babel, Jovanovic, Ngog, Bouzanis, Darby, Amoo, Eccleston, Shelvey, Ince, Suso.
