After missing out on the signing of Aston Villa's Steven Sidwell, Mick McCarthy is set to move for Portsmouth's Michael Brown.
Sidwell moved to Fulham last week having at one point been on the verge of joining McCarthy at Molineux and after missing out on his signature, the Wolves boss is now after a replacement with Brown the likely candidate.
Brown apparently has a clause in his present deal which sees him entitled to a wage rise if he plays another game for Pompey and that could lead to his exit from Fratton Park as the two parties seek a compromise.
McCarthy is looking to add to his squad for the relegation battle ahead and Brown would be an asset if he could land him.
