Healy and Mannus earn recall

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington has recalled David Healy and Alan Mannus to his squad, while Derry’s James McClean receives his first call-up.


Northern Ireland take on Brian Kerr’s Faroe Islands in a European Championship qualifier at Windsor Park on August 10 and Worthington has returned to some old faces.

Healy was suspended for Northern Ireland’s last qualifier and he was unhappy not to be involved in the Carling Nations Cup team that played in Dublin at the end of last season.

But the Rangers man has now been recalled and Worthington has promised no repercussions for the striker’s unhappiness in May. "Like everyone else, he [Healy] will be watched and monitored when we meet up on 7 August," said Worthington.

Goalkeeper Mannus only moved from Shamrock Rovers to St Johnstone this week and it warranted an immediate recall after two years out of the international scene.

McClean, the subject of interest from both Peterborough, and Premier League Wigan, earns his first call-up following an outstanding season so far for Derry City in the Airtricity League.

Northern Ireland sit two points above the Faroe Islands at the bottom of Group C.
