Bolton could miss out on January target Rhys Williams, after the player's agent revealed he is discussing a new deal with Middlesbrough.
The 23-year-old was understood to have been a target for Owen Coyle in the summer transfer window, but Boro held onto their man then and look like they could now tempt him to commit to a longer, improved deal.
The Australia international, who is also said to have been watched by Liverpool scouts, has worked in the past under Owen Coyle, who took him on loan while in charge of Burnley.
Williams has 18 months left on his current deal at the Riverside but his representative, Gary Williams, confirmed talks have begun with the Championship outfit over extending his stay on Teesside.
The defender said: "My main aim is to do what I can for Boro. It's a great club and I am really happy to be a part of the squad.
"I know there has been talk about Bolton being interested in the past, and while that's complimentary, it's not on my mind now at all."
