Appleton delights in 'best' win yet

by Setanta Staff , 02 January 2012 Appleton delights in 'best' win yet

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton claimed their 2-0 defeat of Watford at Fratton Park was his best win yet.

Striker Marko Futacs opened the scoring for dominant Pompey in the 54th minute, heading home his second goal in as many games.

After Liam Lawence had a perfectly good goal disallowed, Hayden Mullins popped up in the 87th minute to slot past Jonathan Bond, who had come on after Scott Loach was sent off.

The result was revenge for Appleton, who started his managerial career at Portsmouth with a 2-0 defeat to Watford in November. He said: "This is definitely our best one. It feels fantastic. We have created enough chances to win three games. The two (goals) flattered them. "

I said to the players before the game I took the defeat down at their place really personally.

It knocked me a little bit.

"As soon as we lost the game I looked when the next fixture was when we played them. I took it badly down there and didn't like the way we played. "

I wanted to win it badly.

Right from minute one we dominated the game.

We have created numerous opportunities and could have had a lot more."
