Petrov confident of making grid

Vitaly Petrov is anxious to remain in Formula 1 and he is hoping he can resolve his future within the next week.

Despite still being under contract, Petrov was dropped by Renault at the end of last season in favour if Romain Grosjean and he has yet to secure a seat for the 2012 season.

It has been widely reported that he is being lined up to replace Jarno Trulli at Caterham, a rumour the Italian insists is not true, while there is also speculation that he could take up a role with Pirelli.

Petrov has refused to confirm or deny the Caterham reports but the Russian did reveal that he hopes to have his future resolved within the coming days.

"If I say something it will be turned into lots of stories," said Petrov. "But please wait a little bit, another week. I want to say something but I can't say at the moment."

Petrov is hopeful he will be on the starting grid in Australia as he feels it is vital for his career that he remain involved in Formula 1

"I want to stay in F1 because if I lose one year then it will be very difficult to come back and to take some places for 2013. So it is important to stay," he added.
