Alan Brogan feels the GAA will create a major problem for themselves if they decide to legalise payments to inter-county managers.
There is a widespread belief that some counties remunerate their managers in some way, which is in direct violation of the GAA's amateur status and the issue is back in the spotlight following the publication of the GAA director general Paraic Duffy’s document on the subject.
While some are in favour of compensating managers for their commitment to the sport others insist payments should be banned in order to maintain the amateur status of the GAA.
Brogan is in the latter camp and he has warned inter-county players will look for payments if the GAA go ahead of legalise payments to managers.
"Yeah, they probably would. It might open the floodgates a little bit and it could be a dangerous road to go down to be honest but how else do you do it? I don’t know," Brogan said when asked about the possibility.
"They’ve to do something about it. Under-the-table payments aren’t the way to go and they are obviously going on somewhere if they are discussing it. I haven’t been exposed to it a huge amount with the club or county."
