Carlos Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian has claimed that the rebel striker will now remain with Manchester City until the summer.
The 27-year-old Argentinian has not played for City since allegedly refusing to warm-up in the second half of the club's Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich in late September.
Tevez returned to his homeland shortly after being hit with a club fine for his antics at the Allianz Arena and has failed to return, prompting City boss Roberto Mancini to stress that he will not play for the club again.
However, City's bid to sell Tevez in this January window has proved a difficult task as Inter Milan and Paris St Germain have recently pulled out of the running, while AC Milan's vice-president Adriano Galliani has said they will make a final decision about a fresh Tevez bid on Friday.
But Joorabchian has now spoken out to suggest that the Tevez saga will now more than likely rumble on until the summer transfer window.
He told Talksport's Keys and Gray: "We've been in negotiations with three big clubs but I don't think they have reached the figures Manchester City want.
"Carlos will remain at Man City until the summer. They [Man City] would like to move him on but only at a certain price."
He added: "This summer will open up a lot of markets. All of the big clubs are looking for players who can play in the Champions League.
"Carlos Tevez is cup-tied and that creates a big obstacle. You're spending a lot of money on the transfer and the salary and he can't play Champions League. You have three and half months and then you can re-structure your team, and buy Carlos, in the summer."
