Chelsea nick late point

by Setanta Staff , 31 January 2012

Scott Sinclair scored his seventh goal of the season, but Swansea were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium.

Ashley Cole was sent off for Andre Villas-Boas' side in the 86th minute for a second bookable offence.

However, Chelsea levelled in the last minute when Neil Taylor deflected Jose Bosingwa's low cross from the right into his own net.

Swansea could have taken the lead early when Petr Cech cleared the ball straight to Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the Iceland international saw Branislav Ivanovic block his goalbound effort. Danny Graham's follow-up effort was blocked by David Luiz, and then Joe Allen saw a third effort saved by the backtracking Cech.

Daniel Sturridge and Luiz missed good opportunities for Chelsea, before Swansea took the lead against the run of play with six minutes of the first half remaining.

Sinclair netted against his former club with a shot that floated over Cech, after Bosingwa had cleared Sigurdsson's free-kick straight to the Swans' winger.

Chelsea completely dominated the opening exchanges of the second half, but Brendan Rodgers' side are well used to defending deep at home, and The Blues were restricted to a long-range effort from substitute Michael Essien, that drifted over Michel Vorm's goal.

It seemed that it was it all over Chelsea when Cole was given a second yellow card for a foul on Nathan Dyer. It was the England defender's fourth red card in his career, and first since December 2007.

But, deep into injury time, Chelsea stole a point when Taylor put through his own goal.
