Gormley blow for Tyrone

by Michelle Fortune , 01 February 2012

Conor Gormley will miss the first few weeks of the lead as he is due to have surgery on a troublesome ankle.

Gormley has been struggling to overcome an ankle injury since last season and the Carrickmore defender has decided to undergo ankle surgery in the hope of rectifying the issue once and for all.

Surgery is scheduled for Friday at the Ulster Independent Clinic in Belfast and is he expected to be out of action for at least a month, which is worrying news for manager Mickey Harte.

Tyrone are already without Sean and Colm Cavanagh for Saturday's Allianz Football League opener against Kildare at Croke Park, while the news comes on the back of Kevin Hughes' decision to retire from inter-county football.

As a result Owen Mulligan will be the only outfield player available from the team that started the 2003 All-Ireland final win over Armagh.
