Nelsen waiting on Spurs clearance

by Michelle Fortune , 01 February 2012

Ryan Nelsen is closing in on a move to Tottenham after having his contract terminated by Blackburn Rovers just moments before the January transfer window closed.

Nelsen's contract at Ewood Park was due to expire at the end of the season but having played just once for Rovers this term the club decided to allow the 34-year-old to leave immediately.

Shortly afterwards Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp spoke of his admiration for the New Zealander, saying: "I think he's a great competitor and a good sort to have at your club. I have always liked him."

Nelsen's agent has since confirmed that a deal has been agreed with Tottenham awaiting confirmation that the move has gone through.

"We settled with Blackburn and have reached agreement with Spurs," Lyle Yorks, Nelsen's representative from James Grant Sports, told the Washington Post

"We're just awaiting clearance. It's for six months, with a one-year option. It all unfolded quickly."

Nelsen joined Blackburn in 2005 after a successful trial and he quickly established himself in the first-term, eventually going on to be named club skipper.

In total he made 209 appearances for Rovers, scoring eight times.
