Newbury reprieve for Ruby

by Tony Cuddihy , 06 February 2012

The British Horseracing Authority have revealed that the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase will now be run at Newbury, following the abandonment of last weekend's Sandown card.

Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Long Run, exciting novice chaser Sprinter Sacre and the hugely talented Grands Crus were all due to appear at Newbury before the addition of the Grade One race, adding further lustre to the fixture.

Ruby Walsh will now be allowed to compete under rules that state that bans can be deferred on days where Grade One races are run.

The Kildare man was initially due to be suspended on Saturday.

Confirming the news on Twitter, the BHA said: "BHA Racing Department can confirm that the Scilly Isles Novices' Chase will be staged on Saturday at Newbury.

"As the Scilly Isles is a Grade One race, this would mean that Ruby Walsh's three-day suspension would not apply on Saturday."
