Ferris cleared of foul play

Stephen Ferris has been cleared of foul play stemming from an incident in Ireland's defeat to Wales in the RBS Six Nations on Sunday.

Ferris appeared before an independent disciplinary committee in London on Wednesday after being cited by the cited by the independent Six Nations Citing Commissioner for the match, Achille Reali (Italy), for foul play under IRB Law 10.4(j) for an incident in the final minute of the game at the Aviva Stadium.

The Irish flanker was sin-binned for his 'tip tackle' on Ian Evans in which he appeared to pick the Welsh play by his right leg and dump him on his side.

However, after careful analysis of the video evidence the independent Six Nations Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Antony Davies (England) together with Douglas Hunter (Scotland) and John Doubleday (England) did not uphold the citing.

The decision of the independent Six Nations Citing Commissioner angered the Irish management team who believed the tackle did not warrant a yellow card.
