Capello reveals 'misunderstanding'

by Setanta Staff , 10 February 2012

Former England boss Fabio Capello has revealed that he resigned from his job due to a "misunderstanding" between himself and the FA.

The Italian left his post on Wednesday following talks with the Football Association over the organisation's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.

The Chelsea man is currently under investigation for allegedly racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, leading the FA to strip him of the armband last Friday.

Capello was thought to be unhappy at the decision and expressed his dismay during an interview on Italian TV, and he was summoned to London to hold crisis talks with his employers.

Many thought the two sides would come to an agreement which would see him manage the team in this summer's European Championship before his contract expired at the end of the season.

However, the results of the talks was his resignation, leaving the Three Lions without a manager just four months before the start of Euro 2012.

Capello insists he didn't run away from the challenge and says his exit was due to a simple misunderstanding.

"I didn't run away, I left because there was a misunderstanding," Capello told Sky Sports.

"I felt great but sometimes you decide to leave."
