Gunners' Henry hopes fade

by Setanta Staff , 10 February 2012

Thierry Henry will not be extending his loan spell at Arsenal, according to New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe.

The Frenchman has impressed since returning to the Emirates Stadium, firing home two goals in five games and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to extend the loan if possible.

Wenger wants him to play in the derby clash against Tottenham but that now looks unlikely after Backe claimed he will return on February 17 as originally planned.

"When I spoke to him he told me that he was 100 per cent coming back on February 17," said Backe. "What I know, it's only rumours. I haven't heard anything from them about extending the loan."

The news will come as a blow to Wenger who was hoping to keep Henry for as long as possible as the Gunners push for a place in next season's Champions League.
