Yakubu ready to lift Rovers

by Setanta Staff , 10 February 2012

Yakubu has given Blackburn a lift by confirming 'I'm ready to go' ahead of his return from a three-match ban to face QPR on Saturday.

The former Nigerian international has been kicking his heels on the sidelines for almost a month after his straight red card in Rovers' 3-1 win against Fulham at Ewood Park on January 14.

Steve Kean's side have only picked up one point from a possible nine in Yakubu's absence, while they go into the QPR clash on the back of a confidence shattering 7-1 thrashing at Arsenal last Saturday which has left them back in the relegation places.

However Yakubu claims the mood in the camp this week has been good as the whole squad is determined to bounce back and secure three vital points in what he calls 'a massive game'.

And, on a personal note, he is looking forward to getting back on the pitch to try and help score the goals which will keep Rovers in the Premier League this season.

"Missing the three games was like being out for three months so it is great to be back and I'm ready to go," said the Yak on the Rovers' official website.

"I am ready to give my best for the team, that is what I want to do.

"I'm really looking forward to the game, it is a massive game, every game is a massive game, and we really need the three points."

The Nigerian's manager Kean added: "To get the Yak back, he's our leading scorer and we've missed him.

"I think he's quoted as saying three games felt like three months so it's brilliant for us to have him back. He's our leading scorer and if we give him the service he's going to be a real important player for us in the remaining games.

"It's not only his enthusiasm, he's a clever player - I think the centre-halves he plays against, he gives them a hard time because he's always difficult to pick up.

"He's an infectious character round the place and he's always got a smile on his face and it's great that he's back and available for selection again."
