Heitinga admits Moyes' Spurs fears

by Setanta Staff , 11 February 2012 Toffees ace issues Moyes' Spurs fears

Johnny Heitinga is hoping Everton boss David Moyes would snub Tottenham if they turn to him in the event of losing Harry Redknapp.

The Toffees' Dutch international defender is well aware that Spurs boss Redknapp is the overwhelming favourite to replace outgoing England coach Fabio Capello after his decision to quit this week just four months before the European Championships.

And Heitinga is fearful that the White Hart Lane hierarchy could turn to 48-year-old Moyes as his successor if he does depart for the Three Lions job.

The Scot has worked wonders on a low budget at Goodison Park since taking over in 2002 and is now the third longest serving manager in the Premier League behind Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.

But, with suggestions that Moyes has become frustrated on Merseyside due to a lack of funds to strengthen his squad, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he could be tempted to take over at Tottenham due to their superior spending power and ambition.

However, Heitinga is hoping that the Everton board do all they can to ensure that Moyes is not enticed to north London, describing him as 'the right person for this club'.

He added on Goal: "In the past, Everton were fighting to stay in the league; a few years later they were playing in the FA Cup Final and fighting for a Champions League place.

"Moyes is the right man for us. What he has done is unbelievable.

"Behind Ferguson and Wenger, he is the third longest serving manager. He is vital to everything Everton want to do. The fans here love him and he is the main reason why the club has been doing so well."
