Manchester City full back Micah Richards has been forced to shut his Twitter account down following a new racism in football row.
His agent Alex Levack claims Richards was left with no choice to come off the social networking site after receiving online abuse that was getting too much.
The 23-year-old was first upset by a message sent to him last November, which sparked an investigation by Lincolnshire Police, and despite trying to ride the incident out he has now opted to reluctantly close his @officialMR2 account which had 120,000 followers in response to repeated abuse.
Levack, of the player's representatives Sidekick Management, told the Daily Mail: "Micah is upset about closing his account because he enjoyed the banter and engaging with fans.
"It was for this reason he did not close his account when he first considered doing so in November.
"However, he has continued to receive occasional abuse and has decided enough is enough."
The news has also been confirmed by his City team-mate Joleon Lescott, who tweeted: "Sorry to say tweeps it's true about Micah is not on twitter any more. Sad day as he is a funny guy on here."
