Ward flew through return

by Setanta Staff , 13 February 2012 football news

Elliott Ward played his first game of the season in Norwich's 3-2 win at Swansea on Saturday and afterwards said 'I feel fine'.

The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines after working his way back to fitness from a long-term knee injury he suffered during the Canaries' pre-season training camp in Germany.

However Ward finally got the green light to play in the Premier League when boss Paul Lambert thrust him into the starting XI at the Liberty Stadium due to Daniel Ayala and Zak Whitbread both being ruled out with respective hamstring injuries.

It turned out to be a dream comeback for Ward as two goals from Grant Holt and one from Anthony Pilkington helped the Canaries come from behind to secure a fourth away-day victory of the season.

And, following his first taste of top-flight action this term, Ward handed Lambert a further boost by confirming he has suffered no ill-effects with his knee problem.

He told the Pink 'Un: "I wanted to come back and make sure I did my job and didn't let the lads down. They have done so well this season that you want to continue that with them, so it was good.

"I feel fine. I think it was a good game to come back into, the way Swansea play.

"The ball is in front of you a lot and it saves your lungs a bit, so it was a good one to come back into and hopefully I'll kick on now.

"It has been a long time coming and there have been a few ups and downs and a bit dark at times. But you have to be strong and come back fighting, and I showed it today."
