Ruben Rochina is determined to prove to Steve Kean he deserves a place in the Blackburn strikeforce alongside Yakubu.
The Spanish starlet enjoyed an impressive first half to the campaign when he featured regularly in the first team and fired in six goals in 12 appearances.
However, Rochina's opportunities have dried up and he has not started a Premier League game since the shock 3-2 win at Manchester United on New Year's Eve.
But the 20-year-old is refusing to be downbeat looking ahead to the final three months of the campaign as he feels he could be the perfect partner for top scorer Yakubu as Kean looks for the perfect formula to keep Rovers in the top flight.
Rochina, who expects to stay on the sidelines after watching Rovers defeat QPR 3-2 on Saturday, told the Lancashire Telegraph: "The most important thing for a player is to play.
"I am not playing now but sometimes this is what happens in football.
"The manager decides who plays and I need to wait for my opportunity. I have confidence in myself but sometimes you need to play to take big confidence with you, it's the only thing.
"I am doing best my in training and every game but I can do nothing more, I will just wait for my opportunity and try to work harder."
