McIlroy eager for US bow

Rory McIlroy is happy with the way his game is shaping up and looking forward to making his season debut in America next week.

The 22-year-old enjoyed his best year as a professional in 2011 and has started 2012 in excellent form as well, with two top-five finishes during the desert swing.

He kicked off his campaign with a second-place finish in Abu Dhabi before managing a top-five berth in Dubai.

The Northern Irishman intends to split his time between the European Tour and the PGA Tour this year and will begin his assault stateside at next week's WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona.

McIlroy has already stated that he thinks his game is suited to the US courses and he proved it by winning the US Open by a record eight shots at Congressional last year.

He is currently ranked third in the world behind Luke Donald and Lee Westwood and admits that he is relishing the chance to play a different format in America.

"I'm looking forward to it," he told the European Tour's official website. "The Match Play is a nice event and a really nice course. I haven't played that well there the last couple of years, so it will be nice to go and get a run in that."

The Holywood-born star is tipped for big things over the coming years but has not won as many events as most pundits felt he would at this stage of his career.

But the talented youngster is content with the way he is playing at present and feels he is getting better as the year progresses.

"I am happy with the way the season started," he added. "I usually start the year off pretty well but I feel like I've taken big strides this year in my game and the way I'm swinging the club. My consistency is improving all the time, as well."
