Ricky Ponting has moved to clarify the position regarding Brad Haddin with confusion surrounding the wicket-keeper's future.
Ponting has been thrust back into the limelight for one match, with skipper Michael Clarke unable to face Sri Lanka on Friday due to injury, and he will lead the side against Mahele Jayawardene's men in Sydney.
Haddin had initially been left out of the squad for the first three matches of the triangular series but Matthew Wade's form means that he has now been omitted from the squad for the remainder of the series.
Initial reports from the Aussie camp suggested that the 34-year-old had been "rested" for the first few games, although Haddin always insisted that he had been dropped and made it clear that he did not expect to play any part in the series.
The press Down Under have been questioning Ponting over whether Haddin now has a future in the one-day game beyond the current series and the Tasmanian has responded by insisting that the player knows exactly where he stands regarding selection.
"I think he actually has been given that, face to face. That's my understanding of it all," he told a press conference ahead of the next CB Series clash. "He's been told and his position on it has been rock solid all the way through.
"He hasn't changed anything. What he had to say when he was left out of the first game is exactly what he's saying now."
Ponting admits he was at a loss as to why there has been confusion surrounding Haddin's position but made it clear that the veteran glove-man is aware of the situation.
"I've got no idea why the communication has been the way it has been to the media but I know Brad's stance hasn't changed from day dot," he added.
"Whatever communication I've had with selectors since this new panel's been in place, to me directly, has been very good."
