Casey out of Match Play

by Michelle Fortune , 17 February 2012

Paul Casey has withdrawn from the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona due to a dislocated shoulder.

Casey has twice finished second in the Match Play - to Geoff Ogilvy in 2009 and then to Ian Poulter in 2010 - but he has not recovered from the injury he suffered while snowboarding last month and as a result he has been forced to pull out.

The Englishman was told his shoulder would take up to two months to heal but he is hopeful of being fit for the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami on March 8-11.

George Coetzee will take Casey's place in the 64-man field with the South African set to face world number one in Wednesday's first round.

However, should any other player withdraw Ryan Moore will become the first reserve with Coetzee then taking on world number two Lee Westwood.
