Harry back on golden road

by Michelle Fortune , 22 February 2012

Diamond Harry is on course for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup after overcoming a recent wind operation.

The nine-year-old was diagnosed with a loose palate after disappointing runs in the Betfair Chase and the Argento Chase and underwent an operation at the start of February to correct the issue.

The operation was a success and connections are hoping he can give a better account of himself when he renews rivalry with Kauto Star and Long Run in the March 16 blue riband.

"The operation went okay and he's recovered well. It was just a minor wind op on his soft palette," owner Paul Duffy wrote on Facebook.

"He's back doing a bit of walking. I know he's had his preparation interrupted but he wouldn't have been doing that much at this stage. Obviously we won't know for sure if it's worked but we're going to have a go at the Gold Cup."

Noel Fehily was aboard the former Hennessy Gold Cup winner when he finished fifth to Midnight Chase at Cheltenham last month and Duffy is hoping the jockey will take the reins in the Gold Cup.
