Porto make it too easy for City

by Tony Cuddihy , 22 February 2012

Manchester City are through to the next round of the Europa League, after their 4-0 win over Porto at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening.

City win 6-1 on aggregate.

Sergio Aguero, impressive throughout, scored the opener after just 20 seconds of the game.

Nigel de Jong pressurised the Porto defence and the ball fell to Yaya Toure, who fed Aguero. The Argentinian striker had only Helton to beat and he made no mistake.

This woke Porto up and they enjoyed a far better first half than their opponents.

However, for all their possession, Hulk, Lucho Gonzalez and company were reduced to long range efforts.

Aguero, meanwhile, hit the bar from a tight-angled lob over Porto's maverick goalkeeper.

The second half started in much the same way. City would concede free-kicks on the edge of their area, Porto would blaze over.

However, the introductions of Edin Dzeko and debutant David Pizarro changed matters.

City went 2-0 up when Aguero broke into the box, beat the challenge of Rolando and squared for Dzeko to fire home.

Pizarro then did all the hard work for David Silva to tap in, before the recent arrival from Roma got on the end of a series of small passes in the Porto box to score his debut goal.
