The onus is on Kerry to make sure cruciate ligament victim David Moran is looked after, County Chairman Patrick O'Sullivan has said.
Moran is facing yet another season on the sidelines after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his left knee while training with his club Kerin O'Rahilly's. Surgery is scheduled for next week in Dublin but the recovery will be a long one as it is the second time he has done his cruciate.
"It's a longer one to come back from because of where they take the actual ligament from is a different part of the body," O'Sullivan told the Irish Daily Star.
"It's a slower recovery, that's what he told me. It's a tricky one. He's disappointed."
The 23-year-old originally tore his cruciate while playing for Kerry in an Allianz Football League game against Monaghan last April and O'Sullivan believes it is the Kingdom's responsibility to look after the player as he was representing the county when he was first injured.
"He wasn't in training with us but he got the original injury playing for us so we have a responsibility to look after our players," O'Sullivan added.
"It's a recurrence, a freak thing. The onus is on us to make sure that he is looked after.
"He wasn't available at the weekend for Kerry because he wasn't ready and we would have advised him to go training with his club."
