Jelavic targets derby glory

by Setanta Staff , 23 February 2012 Striker targets derby glory

New signing Nikica Jelavic is looking to find himself on the score sheet against Liverpool and become an instant hero at the club.

Everton should have been up against cross city rivals Liverpool this weekend but the match is off, as they have a Carling Cup final to play at Wembley, and that is good news for Jelavic as he would have missed the derby due to injury.

The Croatian, a £5.5m signing from Rangers during the January transfer window, has picked up a stomach injury which would have kept him out this weekend.

Nevertheless when he is fit again he is looking to continue the sort of form that netted him 36 goals in 55 games at Ibrox, and he would like to do it against Liverpool.

"I'm ready to score against anybody, but especially against Liverpool!" Jelavic told the Daily Post.

"I know how big those games are for the fans so I will try everything to score when we play them.

"I've not set any targets but, of course, as a striker I expect many goals.

"I think team spirit is everything, whichever team you're playing for. But here I've noticed it especially. I really looks like a family and everyone is looking out for each other."
