Blackburn Rovers secured the surprise win of the season by beating Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford on New Year's Eve.
With Sir Alex Ferguson looking on as he turned 70, two goals from Yakubu and a Grant Hanley header secured the points for Steve Kean's side, with Dimitar Berbatov twice equalising in vain.
Berbatov was actually at fault for the first goal of the game. The Bulgarian - recently restored to the United attack - pulled down defender Chris Samba in the box and Yakubu easily beat David de Gea from the spot.
United, without playing particularly well, came back at Blackburn. Nani missed a few opportunities while Javier Hernandez could find no way past Mark Bunn.
The home side's injury problems began to tell early in the second half when Yakubu easily turned makeshift centre half Michael Carrick and slotted in his 13th goal of the season.
However, Rovers conceded within 20 seconds of the restart, as the ball found Rafael and his cross was headed in by Berbatov.
The striker sidefooted United level shortly afterwards, sidefooting home after a brilliant burst of pace and cross by Antonio Valencia.
As United poured forward they forgot their defensive responsibilities, and that spelled disaster when de Gea fumbled a corner from Morten Gamst Pedersen and young defender Hanley scrambled the ball in with his head.
