Care lands driving ban

by Setanta Staff , 16 January 2012

Harlequins and England scrum-half Danny Care has been banned from driving for 16 months after pleading guilty to a drink-drive charge.

The 25-year-old was stopped by police on the M3 in Hampshire in the early hours of January 1 and a breath test showed he had 77mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 35mg.

In addition to the ban he was also fined £3,100, while the RFU has already taken action over the incident.

Three weeks before his arrest for drinking and driving, Care was fined by police for being drunk and disorderly and he was immediately dropped from the Six Nations squad after his latest misdemeanour.

The former Leeds Tykes number nine has made 32 appearance for England to date and looked set for a starting berth at the World Cup last year, but he was ruled out of the tournament with a toe injury as England limped out of the event at the quarter-final stage.

He had hoped to make a big impact in the Six Nations under interim coach Stuart Lancaster but will play no part in proceedings for the Red Rose and will now have to work exceptionally hard both on and off the pitch to win back his place in the national side.
